Ballarat High School commenced in 1907 as Agricultural High School and today has a student population
of approximately 1400 students.

ROLE
DESCRIPTION:
The position of Ballarat High School Sport Director will
undertake a position in the leadership and coordination of the school Sport
program and specialist sport.
The key focus of this position is to promote in students
an active interest in personal health and wellbeing through the medium of
sport.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The key scope of the position may
include but is not limited to:
Responsible for
the leadership and management of all sport (BHS, BAS,
BSSSA, VSSSA, and National events) in the School
through the organisation of coaches, umpires, venues, transport, equipment and
other administrative requirements as necessary. This includes the BHS and BAS
Swimming Carnivals.
Encourage high levels of participation in
the school and specialist Sport
programs.
Liaise with the administration, school staff, external groups, wider community,
Physical Education and Sport staff as
necessary.
Assist in the supervision of a Trainee from North Ballarat Football Club.
Actively recruit appropriate students for the programs, allocate
students for awards and student leadership positions, and conduct sports
assemblies, etc.
Organise guest speakers, physiotherapy, lunches, diaries,
Leadership Camp, excursions/trips, group photos, etc for all Sport programs.
Actively promote student and staff
achievements through school newsletters and the local
media.
Chair the Specialist Sport Committee and represent the school at
interschool sports meetings and continue to build links between sporting
organisations and the school.
Be a representative on the Resources committee and liaise with them
regarding
grounds requirements and the tasks to be requested of the
maintenance/grounds staff.
Conduct the ongoing review of the School
Sport and specialist sport education
programs.
Be responsible and accountable for sport
and specialist sports budgets, including the collection of funds and outgoing
expenditures.
KEY SELECTION
CRITERIA:
Applicants are requested to present a
written response to the key selection criteria below:
1.
A comprehensive knowledge of sports management, competitions and associated
requirements including the ability to lead the implementation and evaluation of
sports programs; and knowledge & application of assessing and reporting in
sport.
2.
Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal
skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with
students, parents and other staff and contribute to the leadership and
management of the school.
3.
Demonstrated leadership abilities in strategic thinking,
negotiation, planning, delegation and training of
staff.
4.
Demonstrated ability to work with a team and to develop working
relationships with other staff.
5.
Demonstrated ability to provide support and professional
assistance to other staff and volunteers assisting with
programs.
6.
Knowledge
and understanding of DEECD and school policies and procedures and the ability to
develop initiatives in response to
these.
